New sails
Advice and quotation of new sails
The right new sails for your boat
Buying new sails can be a journey into the unknown for many people and therefore it often ends up being bought in confidence in what the chosen sailmaker has said. There are a myriad of canvas types with different names at the various sailmakers and tablecloth weight alone does not says everything. Sometimes a single letter in the sailcloth title can have a huge impact on properties and durability.
After the tendency clearly is going away from the previous mast head rigging with large genua’s and small mainsail, to now fractional wide rigging with angled spreaders, smaller headsails and larger mainsails. Then there in recent years, has been a lot of development on flying sails, which with the previously spinnakers was complicated to manage short handed and they was mostly made for downwind to easy handling code zero’s, gennakers and the new cable free code zero types, which is now also available as a „Permanent hoist“ version. Then you have an easy-to-handle flying sail that just rolls in and out as needed and then the new genoa may only need to be 120% instead of the previous 150%.
